The regular meeting of the East Carroll Parish School Board was held Tuesday, November 4, 1997 at 6:30 p.m. in the Boardroom of the School Board Office.

 

Member(s) Present: Mr. Ralph Coleman, Mr. Gene Edmondson, Mrs. Fannie Hawkins, Mrs. Ernestine Houston, Mrs. Georjean Jackson, Reverend Tommy McKeel, Reverend Michael Owens, Mr. Buford Perry

 

Member(s) absent: Mrs. Evangelia Fields

 

The meeting was called to order by the President, Mrs. Georjean Jackson and words of welcome were extended to all visitors.

 

Invocation was given by Mrs. Ernestine Houston

 

Mr. Gene Edmondson moved, seconded by Mrs. Ernestine Houston that the minutes of October 7, 1997 regular meeting be approved as written.

 

The President, Mrs. Georjean Jackson yield in favor of Mr. Marrage Facen, Superintendent who conducted the recognition program for Teacher of the Year

Mr. Buford Perry moved, seconded by Mr. Ralph Coleman to approve the following policies and that they be placed in The Policies and Procedure Manuel for East Carroll Parish Schools.

 

            A.  Suspension

            B.  Discipline

            C.  Expulsion

Mr. Buford Perry moved, seconded by Mrs. Ernestine Houston to accept the resignation of Mr. Travis Hughes, teacher at Southside Elementary School

Mr. Buford Perry moved, seconded by Mr. Ralph Coleman to accept the following persons for employment.

 

            1.  Mr. Doyle Arrender - Special Education Teacher- Lake Providence Jr. High

            2.  Ms. Angela Brice - Teacher - Lake Providence Jr. High

            3.  Ms. Jessie Roberson - Cafeteria - Lake Providence Jr. High

The Board decided to take the following policies under advisement until it’s December 2, 1997 meeting:

 

            A.   Vandalism

            B.   Selection of Administrative & Supervisory Personnel

            C.   Discipline of students with disabilities

 

Mr. Facen informed the Board that no bids were received for General Liability Insurance. He also informed the Board that he would continue ask for bids in the official journal for General Liability Insurance.

 

Mr. Ralph Coleman moved, seconded by Mr. Gene Edmondson to accept the lone bid of Mindu Farm, Mr. Troyce Dukes in the amount of $27,720.00 for three (3) years (farm consist of 139 acres more or less)

The Board agreed to table allowing Grambling State University to teach law enforcement classes to high school students for college credit until more concrete information can be found.

Abstaining:        Mrs. Fannie Hawkins

Mrs. Fannie Hawkins moved, seconded by Mrs. Ernestine Houston to place the following items on the agenda:

 

1.         ”r;Resolution for a Jury Trial” --a request made by the Attorney representing the Board and the Coregis Insurance Company

 

2.         ”r;Readvertise for sale on old bus” (Bus #1)

Mr. Buford Perry moved, seconded by Reverend Tommy McKeel to give Mr. Marrage Facen, Superintendent and Mrs. Georjean Jackson, President permission to sign the resolution from Bolen & Erwin, LTD representing Kendall Thompson, State Farm Mutual Insurance, East Carroll Parish School Board and Coregis Insurance Company granting permission for a ”r;Jury Trial” after conferring with Mr. Michael Kelly, School Board Attorney

Mr. Buford Perry moved, seconded by Reverend Tommy McKeel to authorize Mr. Marrage Facen, Superintendent to readvertise for the sale of the old school bus.

The Superintendent gave the Board an update on the ”r;National School Board Convention” April 4-7, 1998

 

Mr. Gene Edmondson moved, seconded by Mrs. Ernestine Houston that the meeting adjourn.
