The regular meeting of the East Carroll Parish School Board was held Tuesday, April 11, 2000 at 6:30 p.m. in the Boardroom of the School Board Office.

 

Member(s) present: Mrs. Georjean Jackson, Mrs. Fannie Hawkins, Mr. Buford Perry, Mr. Ralph Coleman, Reverend Michael Owens, Mr. Glenn Dixon, Mr. Gene Edmondson

 

Member(s) absent: Mrs. Evangelia Fields, Reverend Tommy McKeel

 

The meeting was called to order by the President, Mrs. Georjean Jackson and all visitors were welcomed.

 

Invocation was given by Mr. Gene Edmondson

 

Reverend Michael Owens moved, seconded by Mrs. Fannie Hawkins to accept the minutes of the regular meeting of March 7, 2000.

Mrs. Fannie Hawkins moved, seconded by Mr. Gene Edmondson to add the following two items to the agenda:

 

1.         Resolution from the East Carroll Parish Ministerial Alliance

2.         Retire to Executive Session to discuss personnel and two pending lawsuits against the school board

Mr. Glenn Dixon moved, seconded by Mr. Gene Edmondson to adopt the Resolution as presented by the East Carroll Parish Ministerial Alliance to encourage principals and coaches to avoid scheduling school activities on Wednesdays and Sundays.

Mr. Gene Edmondson moved, seconded by Mrs. Fannie Hawkins to move into ”Executive Session" to discuss personnel and two pending lawsuits lodged against the school board

Reverend Michael Owens moved, seconded by Mr. Glenn Dixon to accept the resignation of Mrs. Cora Holmes as Pre-GED Teacher at the Lake Providence Senior High School

Mr. Glenn Dixon moved, seconded by Reverend Michael Owens to (1) accept the recommendation of Mr. Hamilton to prepare the proper documents ensuring that the repairs at Southside Elementary are substantially complete and the facility is ready for use (2) repair the administrative roof at Southside Elementary for $9,996.00 and replace the security system for $1,770.00

Reverend Michael Owens moved, seconded by Mrs. Fannie Hawkins to take the Superintendent’s recommendation to accept the bid of $856,000 for repairs to the Lake Providence Jr. High School

Mr. Glenn Dixon moved, seconded by Mr. Gene Edmondson to authorize Mr. Grant Pace (Conservation Reserve Program) to write a letter to Washington requesting an exemption for thinning trees on the tree farm

Reverend Michael Owens moved, seconded by Mrs. Fannie Hawkins to accept the following calendar/schedules: Regular School Calendar for 2000-2001, Payroll Schedule for 2000-2001, Twelve Month Employee Calendar for 2000-2001, and the 20 Day Report Schedule for 2000-2001

Mrs. Fannie Hawkins moved, seconded by Reverend Michael Owens to allow Northside Elementary to conduct fundraisers to take Accelerated Reading students to visit the African American Museum at Monroe, Louisiana on May 1, 2000

Mr. Gene Edmondson moved, seconded by Mr. Glenn Dixon to use the Banner Democrat as the board’s official journal.  The Louisiana Delta Bank and Hibernia National Bank would be used as the official depositories

Reverend Michael Owens moved, seconded by Mrs. Fannie Hawkins to grant out-of-state travel for Mrs. Mary Green to attend the International Reading Association Convention scheduled for May 1-5 at Indianapolis, Indiana
