The regular meeting of the East Carroll Parish School Board was held Wednesday, November 8, 2000 at 6:30 p.m. in the Boardroom of the School Board Office.

The meeting was called to order by the Vice President, Mrs. Fannie Hawkins and all visitors were welcomed.

 

Mr. Gene Edmondson moved, seconded by Mr. Ralph Coleman to accept the minutes of the October 3, 2000 meeting.

Mr. Gene Edmondson moved, seconded by Mr. Ralph Coleman to accept the resignation of Ms. LaKimberly Luckett, Title I Aide at the Lake Providence Junior High School.

Reverend Tommy McKeel moved, seconded by Mr. Ralph Coleman to accept the resignation of Mr. Leartrice Hawkins as head baseball coach at the Lake Providence Senior High School.

Mr. Ralph Coleman moved, seconded by Mrs. Evangelia Fields to declare a teacher shortage in order to hire Mr. Sidney Thomas as the science teacher at the Lake Providence Senior High School.

Mr. Gene Edmondson moved, seconded by Reverend Tommy McKeel to approve the list of new employees as of November 8, 2000.

The East Carroll Parish Pupil Progression Plan for the school year 2000-2001 was presented to the board for consideration and adoption at the December 5, 2000 meeting.

 

Mr. Buford Perry moved, seconded by Mr. Gene Edmondson to give the superintendent of schools permission to let bids on Farm #609 (12 acres) for farming purposes.

Proposal for the East Carroll Parish School System presented by Entergy Masters International until the December 5, 2000 board meeting.

Mr. Glenn Dixon moved, seconded by Mr. Gene Edmondson to pledge the Board’s support for the East Carroll Parish Office of Emergency Preparedness by granting use of the parish’s public schools as shelters in disaster or emergency situations.

Mr. Glenn Dixon moved, seconded by Mrs. Evangelia Fields to grant the use of the Lake Providence Senior High School Bandroom to Jennifer Bruce for a birthday celebration in honor of Mrs. Sarah McKeel beginning at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 23, 2000.

The board decided to take under advisement a proposal from Mr. Roger Clement to place an irrigation well on farm land he is presently leasing from the school board.

Mr. Buford Perry moved, seconded by Mr. Ralph Coleman to add the following two items to the agenda:   (1) Mary Green’s request to attend a Reading Recovery Conference, and (2) Blue Cross insurance increase.

Mr. Buford Perry moved, seconded by Mr. Ralph Coleman to allow Mary Green, Reading Recovery Teacher, to attend the Reading Recovery Conference at Dallas, Texas on November 14-18, 2000.

The board took no action on a (49.4%) increase in the insurance premium offered by the Blue Cross Insurance Company. The superintendent of schools was authorized to research other insurance companies which might offer better insurance rates.
