The regular meeting of the East Carroll Parish School Board was held Tuesday, February 6, 2001 at 6:30 p.m. in the Boardroom of the School Board Office.

 

Member(s) present: Mrs. Georjean Jackson, Mrs. Fannie Hawkins, Reverend Tommy McKeel, Mr. Ralph Coleman, Mr. Buford Perry, Mr. Glenn Dixon, Mrs. Evangelia Fields, Mrs. Gene Edmondson

 

Member(s) absent: Reverend Michael Owens

 

Invocation was given by Mr. Glenn Dixon

 

The meeting was called to order by the President, Mrs. Georjean Jackson and all visitors were welcomed.

 

Mr. Gene Edmondson moved, seconded by Mr. Buford Perry to accept the minutes of the January 2, 2001 meeting.

Mr. Buford Perry moved, seconded by Mrs. Evangelia Fields to authorize Superintendent Facen to add two items to the agenda: A request to hold fundraisers at Northside Elementary and to change the next school board meeting to March 5, 2001.

Superintendent Facen informed members attending the Louisiana School Board Convention in Baton Rouge, Louisiana who wanted their spouse to register for the convention must pay for spouse’s registration at a cost of $45.00.

Mr. Glenn Dixon moved, seconded by Mrs. Evangelia Fields that Northside Elementary School be allowed to sponsor a series of fundraisers in the form of basketball games, raffles, and talent shows to finance a group of students for the annual end of the year trip with the Accelerated Reader Program.

Mrs. Fannie Hawkins moved, seconded by Mrs. Evangelia Fields to accept the resignations of Nichole Proctor, Social Worker of Pupil Appraisal Services, Leland Rawls, Special Education Teacher at Monticello High School, and JacQuetta White, Teacher Aide at Northside Elementary School.

Mr. Gene Edmondson moved, seconded by Mrs. Evangelia Fields to hire two teacher aides (Tesha Thompson and Yvonne Spearman) to assist with the second grade at Southside Elementary due to the re-scheduling of students because of the demise of a second grade teacher.

Mr. Glenn Dixon moved, seconded by Mrs. Fannie Hawkins to grant the use of the Lake Providence Senior High Bandroom to Louiza Allen and Evelyn Kelley for a Mardi Gras Gala Dance for the Freddie H. Perkins Foundation Scholarship on February 24, 2001.

Mrs. Evangelia Fields moved, seconded by Mrs. Fannie Hawkins to grant the use of the Lake Providence Senior High Bandroom to Dorothy Green for a Wedding Reception on September 1, 2001.

District Attorney James Caldwell reviewed the situation involving Mr. Michael Owens’ case and provided options that the board could take concerning this matter until the upper courts resolved the matter.

Mr. Buford Perry moved, seconded by Mr. Glenn Dixon that the board remain with Blue Cross/Blue Shield for health insurance coverage of Board employees and Board retirees until everything is resolved with ALTA Insurance Company and the Board receive a requested premium quote from the State Employee Group Benefits Program.

Mrs. Evangelia Fields moved, seconded by Mrs. Fannie Hawkins that the board increase its contribution for the employee’s health premium by $40.00 per month for the single plan thus bringing the board’s contribution to $140.03.

Mr. Buford Perry moved, seconded by Mrs. Evangelia Fields to adjourn the meeting.
