The regular meeting of the East Carroll Parish School Board was held Tuesday, May 7, 2002 beginning at 7:30 p.m. in the Boardroom of the School Board Office.

 

Member(s) present: Mrs. Georjean Jackson, Mr. Ralph Coleman, Ms. Oleaner Green, Mr. Glenn Dixon, Mrs. Fannie Hawkins, Mrs. Evangelia Fields, Mr. Buford Perry, Mr. Gene Edmondson

 

Member(s) absent: Reverend Tommy McKeel

 

The meeting was called to order by the president, Mrs. Georjean Jackson, and all visitors were welcomed

 

Invocation was given by Mr. Glenn Dixon

 

Mr. Gene Edmondson moved, seconded by Mr. Glenn Dixon to approve the minutes of the regular meeting of April 2, 2002 and special meeting minutes of April 15, 2002

Mrs. Fannie Hawkins moved, seconded by Mr. Ralph Coleman to add receiving of the following reports to the agenda:

 

1.  Reapportionment Maps (Hand-out each board member's proposed district map)

2.  District Accountability Score Reports (Hand-out and explained)

3.  Individual School Closing Activity Calendars (Hand-out)

Mrs. Fannie Hawkins moved, seconded by Ms. Oleaner Green to allow Ms. Shirley Dee use of the Lake Providence Senior High School Bandroom for a Tots and Teens pageant scheduled for May 18, 2002 from 6:00-10:00 p.m.

Mr. Glenn Dixon moved, seconded by Mrs. Fannie Hawkins to allow Ms. LaKeshia Warren use of the Lake Providence Senior High School Bandroom for a Wedding Reception scheduled for June 1, 2002 from 3:30-6:00 p.m.

Mrs. Fannie Hawkins moved, seconded by Ms. Oleaner Green to allow Mrs. Dorothy Lewis use of the Lake Providence Senior High School Cafeteria for a Family Reunion scheduled for June 8, 2002

Mrs. Fannie Hawkins moved, seconded by Mr. Glenn Dixon to allow Ms. Lavon Walker use of a school bus to transport children to the East Carroll Parish Baptist Center for Vacation Bible School scheduled for June 3-7, 2002.  East Carroll Baptist Center would be responsible for finding a certified bus driver and defray all other expenses of operating the bus

Mrs. Fannie Hawkins moved, seconded by Mr. Buford Perry to accept the resignation for retirement purpose of Mrs. Charity Bland, food service technician at the Lake Providence Senior High School effective May 28, 2002

Ms. Oleaner Green moved, seconded by Mr. Glenn Dixon to accept the resignation of Mrs. Dorothy Lane, a teacher at Northside Elementary

Mrs. Evangelia Fields moved, seconded by Mr. Gene Edmondson to hire Mr. Stanley Ray Pitts to cut the grass on school campuses from April through October for a salary of $8,721  (153 days at 7:13/hr.)

Mr. Buford Perry moved, seconded by Mrs. Evangelia Fields to authorize Mr. Marrage Facen, Superintendent of Schools, to advertise for bids on janitorial supplies and school food service supplies

Mrs. Evangelia Fields moved, seconded by Mr. Buford Perry to pay certified personnel a salary supplement of $1200 and support personnel a salary supplement of $1300 to be paid in a separate check with the May payroll

The board received the 2002-2003 Special Education application for consideration and adoption at the June, 2002 board meeting

Mr. Buford Perry moved, seconded by Mr. Ralph Coleman to advertise for two new 60 passenger buses with air conditioning and without air conditioning

Mr. Gene Edmondson moved, seconded by Mr. Ralph Coleman to allow Mrs. Virginia Green to haul away the old boilers that were discarded at the Lake Providence Senior High School
