The regular meeting of the East Carroll Parish School Board was held Thursday, September 12, 2002 beginning at 7:30 p.m. in the Boardroom of the School Board Office.

 

Member(s) present:  Mrs. Georjean Jackson, Mrs. Fannie Hawkins, Reverend Tommy McKeel, Mr. Ralph Coleman, Ms. Oleaner Green, Mr. Glenn Dixon, Mrs. Evangelia Fields, Mr. Gene Edmondson

 

Member(s) absent:  Mr. Buford Perry

 

The meeting was called to order by the President, Mrs. Georjean Jackson, and all visitors were welcomed

 

Invocation was given by Reverend Tommy McKeel

 

Mr. Gene Edmondson moved, seconded by Mrs. Evangelia Fields to accept the minutes of the regular meeting of August 6, 2002 and the special meeting minutes of August 12, 2002

The Board was asked to consider for adoption the Proposal for Employment of Personnel as the next regularly scheduled school board meeting

 

Mr. Marrage Facen reported that the garbage contract with Waste Management had been bought out as directed by the board.  The new garbage contract with the East Carroll Parish Police Jury would save the board almost $500 per month

Mr. Glenn Dixon moved, seconded by Mrs. Fannie Hawkins to provide $40,000 of supplemental life insurance for all active employees and retirees through Lafayette Life Insurance.  With the current $10,000 of supplemental life insurance through Jefferson Pilot, all active school employees and retirees who had supplemental life insurance with Fortis Insurance Company will now have $50,000 of supplemental life insurance

Mr. Marrage Facen informed the board that the East Carroll Parish School District's share of the Educational Excellence Fund (Tobacco Money) was $670,240.  The Louisiana Department of Education will meet to decide on investment options to offer Louisiana school districts for spending or investing their share of the funds

Mr. Glenn Dixon moved, seconded by Mr. Gene Edmondson to add a Title One Report from Mr. Marrage Facen to the agenda

Mr. Marrage Facen, Superintendent of Schools, reported that the Title One Program was being monitored and provided with technical assistance from the State Department of Education because East Carroll=s consolidated application had not been submitted in a timely manner.  However, East Carroll had received award letters for each of its Title Programs to begin the school year

 

Mr. Glenn Dixon moved, seconded by Mr. Gene Edmondson to add CEF (Child Evangelism Fellowship) proposal to the agenda

Mr. Glenn Dixon moved, seconded by Mr. Gene Edmondson to allow CEF religious activities to be taught to school age children after school in East Carroll Parish by Pastor John Sanders of Lake Providence.  The program will initially be implemented at Southside Elementary.  When more persons are trained to work with the program, it will be implemented at all other public parish schools
