The regular meeting of the East Carroll Parish School Board was held Tuesday, June 3, 2003 beginning at 6:30 p.m. in the Boardroom of the School Board Office

 

Member(s) present:  Mrs. Georjean Jackson, Mrs. Fannie Hawkins, Reverend Tommy McKeel, Mr. Ralph Coleman, Mrs. Oleaner Green, Mr. Gene Edmondson, Mr. Buford Perry, Mrs. Evangelia Fields, Mr. Glenn Dixon

 

Member(s) absent:  None

 

The meeting was called to order by the vice president, Mrs. Fannie Hawkins, and all visitors were welcomed

 

Invocation was given by Reverend Tommy McKeel

 

Mr. Gene Edmondson moved, seconded by Mrs. Fannie Hawkins to adopt the minutes of the regular meeting of May 6, 2003

 

MOTION PASSED

 

Mrs. Fannie Hawkins moved, seconded by Mrs. Oleaner Green to accept the resignations of the following persons for retirement:

 

            Mrs. Callie Edwards - Title I Program Supervisor

            Mrs. Para Lee Nunley - Cafeteria Technician - Lake Providence Jr. High

            Mrs. Elizabeth Brice - Teacher - Southside Elementary School

Mr. Gene Edmondson moved, seconded by Mr. Glenn Dixon to adopt the following Direct Payroll Deposit procedures for East Carroll Parish School employees:

 

  1. Participants in Direct Payroll Deposit would have their payroll checks deposited at the banking institution of their choice beginning with the 2003-2004 school year

     

  2. Non-participants in Direct Payroll Deposit would receive their checks at the school of employment, at the Central Office or by U.S. Mail

     

  3. All school employees employed after July 1, 2003 shall participate in the Direct Payroll Deposit Program

Mrs. Fannie Hawkins moved, seconded by Mrs. Oleaner Green to allow Mr. John Young the use of the Lake Providence Senior High School bandroom for a Family Gathering scheduled for June 7, 2003

Reverend Tommy McKeel moved, seconded by Mrs. Fannie Hawkins to allow Ms. Umiki Hawkins the use of a school bus to transport students to the Jackson, Mississippi Water Park on July 26, 2003

Mrs. Fannie Hawkins moved, seconded by Reverend Tommy McKeel to allow the DEED Office to use two classrooms at Lake Providence Senior High School summer (2003) tutoring

Mr. Buford Perry moved, seconded by Mr. Ralph Coleman to open bids for janitorial supplies.  Central Office staff should review bids, accept the responsible low bid and present a recap of the results to the board at the July 1, 2003 regular meeting

Mr. Gene Edmondson moved, seconded by Mr. Buford Perry to accept the Title I Consolidated Application for the-2003-2004 school year

Mr. Gene Edmondson moved, seconded by Mrs. Oleaner Green to approve the Special Education Application for 2003-2004

The CRP Tree Committee reported that Farm #238 and Farm #43 would be offered for lease U.S. Conservation Reserve Program.  The U.S. Government would pay a leasing fee of $60.22 per acre for Farm #43 and $60.00 per acre for Farm #238

Mrs. Fannie Hawkins moved, seconded by Mr. Buford Perry to add the following items to the agenda for discussion:

 

  1. Pay raise for all support personnel;

  2. Principal advertisement for Southside Elementary School;

  3. Selection process for the next superintendent of schools

Mr. Glenn Dixon moved, seconded by Mrs. Fannie Hawkins to give the superintendent of schools the authority to advertise for a principal for Southside Elementary School

Mr. Gene Edmondson moved, seconded by Mrs. Fannie Hawkins to approve the following selection process for the next superintendent of schools:

 

  1. Send a letter of invitation for a (15) minute public interview to each candidate

  2. The interviews will be scheduled for June 19, 2003 at the East Carroll Parish School Board Office beginning at 6:30 p.m.

  3. After all interviews have been completed, the board will move into an executive session to discuss their reaction to the interviews

  4. Board would reconvene to select new Superintendent of Schools
