School Board Meeting - Regular

Friday, August 8, 2003

 

The regular meeting of the East Carroll Parish School Board was held Friday, August 8, 2003 beginning at 6:30 p.m. in the Boardroom of the School Board Office.

 

Member(s) present:  Mrs. Fannie Hawkins, Rev. Tommy McKeel, Mr. Ralph Coleman, Mrs. Oleaner Green, Mr. Gene Edmondson, Mr. Buford Perry, Mrs. Evangelia Fields and Mr. Glenn Dixon.

 

Member(s) absent:  Mrs. Georjean Jackson.

 

The meeting was called to order by the vice president, Mrs. Fannie Hawkins, and all visitors were welcomed.

 

Invocation was given by Mr. Gene Edmondson.

 

Mr. Gene Edmondson moved, seconded by Rev. Tommy McKeel to approve the minutes of the regular meeting of July 1, 2003 and the special meeting of July 21, 2003.

Mr. Ralph Coleman moved, seconded by Rev. Tommy McKeel to add two items to the agenda.

Mr. Gene Edmondson moved, seconded by Rev. Tommy McKeel to allow public school students to pass out "Tell a Friend" coupons to the public especially at games.  The coupons could be used by persons to open a free checking account at Hibernia Bank. For each account that is opened, the bank will deposit $10.00 to the respective school's account.  If the customer opens a checking account, but declines to accept a free gift (travel bag,etc.) the bank will donate $20.00 to the respective school's account.

Mr. Glenn Dixon moved, seconded by Mr. Gene Edmondson to authorize the superintendent of schools to appoint a committee to study the impact and cost-effectiveness of moving the light poles from the ball field of Southside Elementary to the ball field at Northside Elementary.

Mr. Glenn Dixon moved, seconded by Mrs. Oleaner Green to accept the following resignations:

 

Mr. Robert Stewart, teacher, Lake Providence Sr. High School;

Mr. Jimmy McCree, teacher, Monticello High School;

Eneisha Henderson, teacher, Lake Providence Jr. High School;

Latyeshia Rembert, teacher, Southside Elementary School; and,

Stacy "Pedro" Griffin, teacher, Lake Providence Senior High School.

The following Support Persons of the Year were recognized:

Mrs. Evangelia Fields moved, seconded by Mrs. Oleaner Green to adopt the following policies:

 

Discipline Policy; and,

Testing Policy.

Mr. Ralph Coleman moved, seconded by Mr. Glenn Dixon to allow Mr. Thorton to clean out the Bull Run ditch at his expense if the Police Jury did not respond to his request to clean out the ditch.

Mrs. Evangelia Fields moved, seconded by Mrs. Oleaner Green to approve the recap bid sheet for school food service supplies.

Mr. Gene Edmondson moved, seconded by Mrs. Evangelia Fields to remove consideration of the renewal of Life Insurance from the agenda due to a lack of adequate information.

Mr. Gene Edmondson moved, seconded by Rev. Tommy McKeel to hire Mrs. Flora Watson as assistant principal at the Lake Providence Junior High School.

Mrs. Evangelia Fields moved, seconded by Mr. Glenn Dixon to add one item to the agenda.

Mrs. Evangelia Fields moved, seconded by Mr. Ralph Coleman to move into executive session to discuss personnel.

Mr. Glenn Dixon moved, seconded by Mrs. Evangelia Fields to reconvene the regular session.

Mrs. Evangelia Fields moved, seconded by Rev. Tommy McKeel to allow the superintendent of schools more time to review the applications that have been submitted for the position of Title One Director.
