School Board Meeting - Regular

February 10, 2004

 

The regular meeting of the East Carroll Parish School Board was held Tuesday, February 10, 2004 beginning at 6:30 p.m. in the Boardroom of the School Board Office.

 

Member(s) present: Mrs. Georjean Jackson, Mrs. Fannie Hawkins, Rev. Tommy McKeel, Mrs. Harriett Bridges, Mr. Ralph Coleman, Mrs. Oleaner Green, Mr. Glenn Dixon, Mrs. Evangelia Fields, and Mr. Gene Edmondson.

 

Member(s) absent: None.

 

The meeting was called to order by the president Mrs. Georjean Jackson, and all visitors were welcomed.

 

Invocation was given by Rev. Tommy McKeel.

 

Mrs. Hawkins nominated Mrs. Georjean Jackson for the office of school board president.

 

Mr. Gene Edmondson nominated Mr. Glenn Dixon for the office of school board president.

 

Mrs. Fannie Hawkins moved, seconded by Mrs. Harriett Bridges that the nominations be closed.

 

MOTION PASSED

 

VOTING FOR MRS. GEORJEAN JACKSON: Mrs. Fannie Hawkins, Mrs. Oleaner Green, Mrs. Georjean Jackson and Rev. Tommy McKeel.

 

VOTING FOR MR. GLENN DIXON:  Mr. Ralph Coleman, Mrs. Harriett Bridges, Mr. Glenn Dixon, and Mr. Gene Edmondson.

 

NOTE: There was a tie vote for the office of school board president.  Mrs. Georjean Jackson declined the nomination and relinquished the position to Mr. Glenn Dixon.

 

Mrs. Oleaner Green nominated Mrs. Fannie Hawkins for the position of school board vice president. 

 

Mr. Ralph Coleman nominated Mr. Gene Edmondson for the position of school board vice president.

 

Mrs. Harriett Bridges moved that the nominations be closed.

 

MOTION PASSED

 

VOTING FOR MRS. FANNIE HAWKINS:  Rev. Tommy McKeel, Mrs. Fannie Hawkins, Mrs. Georjean Jackson, and Mrs. Oleaner Green.

 

VOTING FOR MR. GENE EDMONDSON:  Mrs. Harriett Bridges, Mr. Ralph Coleman, and Mr. Gene Edmondson.

 

Mr. Gene Edmondson moved, seconded by Mrs. Harriett Bridges to appoint Mr. Ralph Coleman as legislative liaison for the East Carroll Parish School Board.

 

MOTION PASSED

 

Dr. Voleria Millikin presented a plaque to Mr. Buford Perry for (33) years of service to the East Carroll Parish School Board.

Mr. Ralph Coleman moved, seconded by Rev. Tommy McKeel to refund a ($100 over-charge) to Ms. Helen Gibson for use of the Lake Providence Senior High School Cafeteria.

 

MOTION PASSED

 

Mr. Ralph Coleman moved, seconded by Rev. Tommy McKeel to accept the resignations of the following persons:

 

Mr. C.B. Wilson, school bus driver,

Mrs. Nancy Holland, teacher, Southside Elementary; and,

Mrs. Cora Martin, teacher, Southside Elementary.

Mrs. Fannie Hawkins moved, seconded by Mrs. Evangelia Fields to employ Mr. Lloyd Whaley as a school bus driver for the East Carroll School District.

Mr. Ralph Coleman moved, seconded by Rev. Tommy McKeel to employ Mrs. Helen Fletcher as a social studies teacher at the Lake Providence Senior High School.

 

MOTION PASSED

 

Rev. Tommy McKeel moved, seconded by Mrs. Oleaner Green to hire Mr. Bobbie Moore as Band Director for the Lake Providence Senior High School.

 

MOTION PASSED

 

Mrs. Evangelia Fields moved, seconded by Mrs. Oleaner Green to employ Mrs. Clara Matthews as an adult outreach para professional.

 

MOTION PASSED

 

Mr. Gene Edmondson moved, seconded by Mr. Ralph Coleman to approve the East Carroll Parish School Activity Fund Procedures Manual.

 

MOTION PASSED

 

Mr. Ralph Coleman moved, seconded by Mrs. Evangelia Fields to appoint Mr. John Griffin as interim head football coach for the Lake Providence Senior High School, to authorize the superintendent of schools to advertise for a permanent head football coach, and appoint a search and interview committee to submit the names of (3) candidates for employment consideration.

Mr. Gene Edmondson moved, seconded by Rev. Tommy McKeel to authorize the superintendent of schools to investigate complaints and reports submitted by the Lake Providence Junior High School Monitoring Committee.

Mr. Gene Edmondson moved, seconded by Mrs. Evangelia Fields to adjourn the meeting.
