School Board Meeting

Tuesday, August 10, 2004

 

The regular meeting of the East Carroll Parish School Board was held Tuesday, August 10, 2004 beginning at 6:30 p.m. in the boardroom of the School Board Office.

 

Member(s) present:  Mr. Glenn Dixon, Mrs. Fannie Hawkins, Rev. Tommy McKeel, Mrs. Harriet Bridges, Mr. Ralph Coleman, Mrs. Oleaner Green, Mrs. Georjean Jackson, Mrs. Evangelia Fields and Mr. Gene Edmondson.

 

Member(s) absent:  None.

 

The meeting was called to order by the president, Mr. Glenn Dixon, and all visitors were welcomed.

 

Invocation was given by Mr. Gene Edmondson.

 

Mr. Gene Edmondson moved, seconded by Mr. Ralph Coleman to approve the minutes of the regular meeting of July 6, 2004 and the special meeting of July 21, 2004.

 

MOTION PASSED

 

Mrs. Fannie Hawkins moved, seconded by Mr. Gene Edmondson to accept the resignation of Ms. Henrietta Collins a teacher at Monticello High School.

Mr. Gene Edmondson moved, seconded by Mrs. Georjean Jackson to approve the employment of Mr. Felton Millikin as an administrative assistant at Monticello High School for the school year 2004-2005.

 

MOTION PASSED

 

Mrs. Georjean Jackson moved, seconded by Mrs. Fannie Hawkins to allow Mr. Calvin Barnes, Rev. Edward Knight, Rev. Harold Dixon and others, to use the Northside Elementary gymnasium for basketball league games.

 

MOTION PASSED

 

Mrs. Fannie Hawkins moved, seconded by Mrs. Oleaner Green to allow Ms. Sharolyn Gibson to use the bandroom of the Lake Providence Senior High School for a class reunion scheduled for September 3, 2004.

 

MOTION PASSED

 

Board members were given the following policies for adoption consideration at the regularly scheduled September, 2004 board meeting:

 

  1. Bullying, Intimidation, Harrassment and Hazing;

  2. Demonstrations by Students; and,

  3. Discipline of Students with Disabilities.

 

Rev. Tommy McKeel moved, seconded by Mrs. Oleaner Green to approve the selection of the TAC Energy Conservation Company as the respondent to the MFP for energy conservation.

Mr. Gene Edmondson moved, seconded by Mrs. Oleaner Green to authorize Superintendent Voleria Millikin to negotiate for an energy audit.

 

MOTION PASSED

 

Mr. Gene Edmondson moved, seconded by Mrs. Georjean Jackson to accept the bid recaps for Child Nutrition and Janitorial Supplies.

 

MOTION PASSED

 

Mr. Gene Edmondson moved, seconded by Mrs. Georjean Jackson to table a proposal to join the North Louisiana CNPC (Child Nutrition Purchasing Cooperative) until the next board meeting pending more information about the program.

Mr. Gene Edmondson moved, seconded by Mr. Ralph Coleman to approve the Reading First Grant for East Carroll schools.  The amount of the grant is $364,734 for a three year program to enhance reading achievement.

            Mrs. Fannie Hawkins

            Dr. Voleria Millikin

 

Mr. Ralph Coleman moved, seconded by Mr. Gene Edmondson to add two items to the agenda.

 

MOTION PASSED

 

Board members were given a list of proposed fundraisers submitted by East Carroll school principals for adoption consideration at the September, 2004 meeting.

 

Mrs. Georjean Jackson moved, seconded by Mrs. Fannie Hawkins to purchase two new buses with air conditioning.

 

MOTION PASSED

 

Mr. Gene Edmondson moved, seconded by Mrs. Evangelia Fields to adjourn the meeting.
