School Board Meeting - Special

October 12, 2004

 

A special meeting of the East Carroll Parish School Board was held Tuesday, October 12, 2004 beginning at 6:30 p.m.  in the Boardroom of the School Board Office.

 

Members present:  Mrs. Fannie Hawkins, Rev. Tommy McKeel, Mrs. Oleaner Green, Mrs. Evangelia Fields, and Mr. Gene Edmondson.

 

Members absent:  Mr. Glenn Dixon, Mrs. Harriet Bridges, Mr. Ralph Coleman, and Mrs. Georjean Jackson.

 

The meeting was called to order by the vice president, Mrs. Fannie Hawkins, and all visitors were welcomed.

 

Invocation was given by Rev. Tommy McKeel.

 

The board received an oral progress report from Mr. Lance Bishop - (TAC) representative.

Some of the information reported included:

 

  1. The TAC team had visited the schools again and re-evaluated the possible energy savings up from about $80,000 to approximately $90,000 per year.

               

  2. Discussions with Mrs. Juanita Smith and Mrs. Catherine James (Guidance Counselors) had been conducted and a presentation schedule would be developed soon.  The TAC presentations to junior and senior high school students would focus on possible career opportunities with TAC and other energy companies.

     

  3. The energy contract proposal would soon be ready for review by the board’s attorney.

 

Mr. Gene Edmondson moved, seconded by Mrs. Evangelia Fields to accept the resignation of Ms. Jennifer Bridges as a teacher at the Lake Providence Senior High School.

Mr. Gene Edmondson moved, seconded by Rev. Tommy McKeel to accept the lowest bid of $60,488/bus from Kent Mitchell (Hammond, LA ) for two new school buses for the school district.

Mr. Gene Edmondson moved, seconded by Mrs. Oleaner Green to approve the Adult Education Policy for the East Carroll Parish School District.

 

MOTION PASSED

 

Mr. Gene Edmondson moved, seconded by Rev. Tommy McKeel to allow the superintendent of schools to accept bids for a walkway canopy at Monticello High School.

 

MOTION PASSED

 

Mr. Gene Edmondson moved, seconded by Rev. Tommy McKeel to provide $895 for the Lake Providence Sr. High School football team to charter a bus for the Panthers verses Red River football game.

 

MOTION PASSED

 

Mr. Gene Edmondson moved, seconded by Mrs. Evangelia Fields to adjourn the meeting.
