School Board Meeting

January 4, 2005

 

The regular meeting of the East Carroll Parish School Board was held Tuesday, January 4, 2005 beginning at 6:30 p.m. in the Boardroom of the School Board Office.

 

Member(s) present:  Mr. Glenn Dixon, Mrs. Fannie Hawkins, Rev. Tommy McKeel, Mrs. Harriet Bridges, Mr. Ralph Coleman, Mrs. Oleaner Green, Mrs. Georjean Jackson, Mrs. Evangelia Fields, and Mr. Gene Edmondson.

 

Member(s) absent:  None.

 

The meeting was called to order by the president Mr. Glenn Dixon, and all visitors were welcomed.

 

Invocation was given by Mr. Willie Bell, Curriculum Supervisor.

 

Election of Officers:

 

Mrs. Fannie Hawkins nominated Mrs. Georjean Jackson for president of the East Carroll Parish School Board.  Mr. Gene Edmondson nominated Mr. Glenn Dixon for president.  Rev. Tommy McKeel moved, seconded by Mrs. Harriet Bridges to close nominations for president.

 

MOTION PASSED

 

Voting in favor of Mrs. Georjean Jackson for president of the East Carroll Parish School Board for 2005: Mrs. Fannie Hawkins, Rev. Tommy McKeel, Mrs. Oleaner Green and Mrs. Georjean Jackson.

 

Voting in favor of Mr. Glenn Dixon for president of the East Carroll Parish School Board for 2005:  Mr. Ralph Coleman, Mr. Glenn Dixon, Mr. Gene Edmondson, Mrs. Harriet Bridges, and Mrs. Evangelia Fields.

 

Mr. Glenn Dixon was reseated as president of the East Carroll Parish School Board for 2005.

 

Mrs. Georjean Jackson nominated Mrs. Fannie Hawkins for vice president of the East Carroll Parish School Board for 2005.  Mrs. Harriet Bridges nominated Mr. Gene Edmondson for vice president.

 

Mrs. Oleaner Green moved, seconded by Mrs. Georjean Jackson to close nominations for vice president.

 

MOTION PASSED

 

Voting in favor of Mr. Gene Edmondson for vice president of the East Carroll Parish School Board for 2005:  Mrs. Harriet Bridges, Mr. Ralph Coleman, and Mr. Gene Edmondson.

 

Voting in favor of Mrs. Fannie Hawkins for vice president:  Mrs. Georjean Jackson, Mrs. Fannie Hawkins, Rev. Tommy McKeel, and Mrs. Oleaner Green.

 

Abstained:  Mrs. Evangelia Fields.

 

Mrs. Fannie Hawkins was reseated as vice president of the East Carroll Parish School Board for 2005.

 

Mr. Gene Edmondson moved, seconded by Mr. Ralph Coleman to approve the minutes of the regular meeting of December 7, 2004.

Mrs. Evangelia Fields moved, seconded by Rev. Tommy McKeel to approve the retirement resignations of Mr. Richard Buchanan (teacher) and Mr. David Tschabold (teacher).

Mrs. Evangelia Fields moved, seconded by Mr. Ralph Coleman to approve the employment of Mr. Sidney Thomas as a special education teacher (LP Senior High) and Mrs. Lois Walker as a Reading First aide (Northside Elementary).

Mrs. Evangelia Fields moved, seconded by Mrs. Oleaner Green to approve the use of the Lake Providence Senior High School auditorium on January 29, 2005 for a youth fundraiser as requested by Ms. Sharolyn Gipson.

An audit report was presented by Mrs. Margie Williamson of Allen, Green, and Williamson for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2004.  The East Carroll School Board received a ”r;very good” overall financial audit with a 3.2 million dollar fund balance as per Mrs. Margie Williamson, CPA.

 

Mr. Gene Edmondson moved, seconded by Mrs. Evangelia Fields to accept the East Carroll Parish School Board audit report for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2004.

Mr. Gene Edmondson moved, seconded by Mrs. Evangelia Fields to adopt the Pupil Progression Plan for the 2004-2005 school year.

Mrs. Evangelia Fields moved, seconded by Rev. Tommy McKeel to adopt a resolution to reject the current pipeline settlement offer (due to insufficient information) and allow the judge to determine a proposed settlement.

Mr. Gene Edmondson moved, seconded by Mrs. Harriet Bridges to allow the Lake Providence Senior High and Lake Providence Jr. High to share equally $1542.35 to purchase baseball supplies for physical education instructional purposes.

Mr. Ralph Coleman moved, seconded by Mrs. Evangelia Fields to allocate $77l.18 to the Monticello High School, Lake Providence Jr. High and Lake Providence Senior High School Physical Education departments to purchase track supplies.

Mr. Gene Edmondson moved, seconded by Mrs. Harriet Bridges to add two items to the agenda.

Ms. Krishanda Mayers, Assistant Extension Agent, briefed the board on a trip that 4-H students would be taking to see the Hornets verses Golden State Warriors in a basket ball game scheduled for February 11, 2005 at New Orleans. Students will also have an opportunity to visit the Aquarium of Americas or the Audubon Zoo.  Teachers will be required to design lesson plans relative to the trips. The trips were approved in the December, 2004 regular board meeting.

 

Rev. Tommy McKeel moved, seconded by Mrs. Harriet Bridges to transfer Coach Earl Webb to Southside Elementary and Mr. John Griffin to the Lake Providence Senior High School at the beginning of the 2005-2006 school year.

 

VOTING IN FAVOR OF THE MOTION:   Mrs. Evangelia Fields, Mr. Ralph Coleman, Mrs. Harriet Bridges, Mrs. Oleaner Green, Rev. Tommy McKeel, Mr. Gene Edmondson, and Mrs. Fannie Hawkins.

 

VOTING AGAINST THE MOTION:  Mrs. Georjean Jackson.
