School Board Meeting

November 1, 2005

 

The regular meeting of the East Carroll Parish School Board was held Tuesday, November l, 2005 beginning at 6:30 p.m. in the Boardroom of the School Board Office.

 

Member(s) present:  Mr. Glenn Dixon, Mrs. Fannie Hawkins, Rev. Tommy McKeel, Mrs. Harriet Bridges, Mr. Ralph Coleman, Mrs. Oleaner Green, Mrs. Georjean Jackson, Mrs. Evangelia Fields, and Mr. Gene Edmondson.

 

Member(s) absent:  None.

 

The meeting was called to order by the president, Mr. Glenn Dixon, and all visitors were welcomed.

 

Invocation was given by Rev. Antonio Anderson.

 

The Pledge of Allegiance was led by the president, Mr. Glenn Dixon.

 

Mr. Gene Edmondson moved, seconded by Mr. Ralph Coleman to approve the minutes of the regular meeting of October 4, 2005.

 

MOTION PASSED

 

Mr. Ralph Coleman moved, seconded by Mrs. Fannie Hawkins to approve the following resignations:

 

            Mrs. Dorothy Allen, maid - Southside Elementary School,

            Mrs. Elizabeth Ward, teacher - Lake Providence Jr. High School,

            Mrs. Katy Johnson, teacher - Lake Providence Jr. High School; and,

            Ms. Tawana Watkins, proctor - Lake Providence Jr. High School.

Mrs. Georjean Jackson moved, seconded by Mr. Gene Edmondson to employ Ms. Theola Chatman as principal for Southside Elementary School.

 

MOTION PASSED

 

Mr. Gene Edmondson moved, seconded by Mr. Ralph Coleman to employ Mrs. Cyd Harris as Title One Federal Program Supervisor/Coordinator for the East Carroll School District.

 

MOTION PASSED

 

Mr. Gene Edmondson moved, seconded by Mrs. Harriet Bridges to employ Ms. Madlyn Matthews as a female security guard for the Lake Providence Jr. High School.

 

MOTION PASSED

 

Rev. Tommy McKeel moved, seconded by Mrs. Georjean Jackson to employ Ms. Ida Coleman as a maid at Southside Elementary School.

 

MOTION PASSED

 

Mrs. Oleaner Green moved, seconded by Mrs. Georjean Jackson to give a $900 tax salary supplement to all school employees by November 18, 2005.

 

MOTION PASSED

 

Mrs. Sarah Johnson, food technician at Lake Providence Jr. High School, was recognized as ”Employee of the Month” by the Gladney Insurance Company.

 

Board members were given the school district’s Pupil Progression Plan for consideration at the December, 2005 regular board meeting.

 

Mr. Ralph Coleman moved, seconded by Mrs. Oleaner Green to adopt the following school board policy:  Testing (Student Achievement).

Mr. Gene Edmondson moved, seconded by Mr. Ralph Coleman to accept the policy for employment of the superintendent of schools as written by Forethought Consulting.

 

VOTING FOR THE MOTION:  Mr. Gene Edmondson, Mr. Ralph Coleman, Rev. Tommy McKeel, Mrs. Harriet Bridges, Mrs. Oleaner Green, and Mrs. Evangelia Fields.

 

VOTING AGAINST THE MOTION:  Mrs. Georjean Jackson, and Mrs. Fannie Hawkins.

Mr. Gene Edmondson moved, seconded by Mrs. Evangelia Fields to table the Violence in the Workplace Policy for review and adoption at the next regularly scheduled board meeting.

Mrs. Evangelia Fields moved, seconded by Mrs. Fannie Hawkins to add two items to the agenda.

 

MOTION PASSED

 

Mrs. Evangelia Fields moved, seconded by Mrs. Fannie Hawkins to authorize the superintendent of schools to advertise for the following positions:

 

  1. Assistant Principal - Northside Elementary School; and,

  2. Assistant Principal - Lake Providence Senior High School.

Rev. Tommy McKeel moved, seconded by Mrs. Evangelia Fields to authorize the superintendent of schools to work with Mr. Phil Jackson, principal-Monticello High School, concerning the out-of school suspensions of five 7th-12th grade students at Monticello High School.

Mr. Gene Edmondson moved, seconded by Mrs. Evangelia Fields to adjourn the meeting.
