School Board Meeting

February 6, 2007

 

The regular meeting of the East Carroll Parish School Board was held on Tuesday, February 6, 2007 beginning at 6:30 p.m. in the Boardroom of the School Board Office.

 

Member(s) present:  Mr. Glenn Dixon, Mr. Gene Edmondson, Mrs. Fannie Hawkins, Mrs. Harriet Bridges, Mr. Ralph Coleman, Mr. Roger Shoemaker, Mrs. Georjean Jackson, and Mrs. Evangelia Fields.

 

Member(s) absent:  Rev. Tommy McKeel.

 

The meeting was called to order by the president, Mr. Glenn Dixon, and all visitors were welcomed.

 

Mr. Glenn Dixon offered the invocation and led the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag.

 

Mr. Gene Edmondson moved, seconded by Mrs. Evangelia Fields to accept the minutes of the regular meeting of January 2, 2007.

 

MOTION PASSED

 

Mrs. Georjean Jackson moved, seconded by Mrs. Fannie Hawkins to allow the LPHS Class of 1967 to use the Lake Providence Jr. High School Cafeteria to host a class reunion activity on May 25, 2007 from 6:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.

 

MOTION PASSED

 

Mrs. Fannie Hawkins moved, seconded by Mr. Roger Shoemaker to accept the East Carroll Parish School Board’s 2006 Audit.

 

MOTION PASSED

 

Mrs. Evangelia Fields moved, seconded by Mr. Ralph Coleman to accept the following resignations:

 

Ms. Lakeisha Jackson, teacher - Lake Providence, Jr. High;  Ms. Amisha Adams, custodian - Lake Providence Jr. High School; Mrs. Catherine Morris, food service technician - Southside Elementary; Larry Flowers, custodian – Northside Elementary; and Ms. Peggy Chirse, teacher - Northside Elementary (resigned for retirement).

Mrs. Evangelia Fields moved, seconded by Mrs. Harriet Bridges to employ Mrs. Betty DeLoach Presley as a Title I teacher at Lake Providence Senior High School.

Mrs. Evangelia Fields moved, seconded by Mr. Gene Edmondson to adopt a resolution to support the Success Center Proposal as presented by Mr. Moses Williams of Tallulah, LA.

 

MOTION PASSED

 

Mrs. Harriet Bridges moved, seconded by Mrs. Evangelia Fields to draft a letter to be forwarded to all area legislators soliciting their support of the Success Center.

 

MOTION PASSED

 

Ms. Earnestine Chase was recognized as Employee of the Month by the East Carroll School Board and the Gladney Insurance Agency.

 

Mrs. Fannie Hawkins moved, seconded by Mr. Gene Edmondson to give the superintendent of schools permission to advertise for leases on farm land (Farm #1457).

Mrs. Evangelia Fields moved, seconded by Mr. Ralph Coleman to accept a proposal for property insurance from the RSUI Indemnity Company.

 

MOTION PASSED

 

The board heard and accepted a report from Mr. Glenn Dixon and Mrs. Fannie Hawkins on their NCLB lobbying trip to Washington, DC.

 

Mr. Ralph Coleman moved, seconded by Mrs. Evangelia Fields to grant (6) hours of credit to school board members who attended a training at Alexandria, LA on January 10, 2007.

 

MOTION PASSED

 

School Board Vice President Election:

 

Mr. Ralph Coleman nominated Mr. Gene Edmondson, and Mrs. Georjean Jackson nominated Mrs. Fannie Hawkins.

 

Mrs. Harriet Bridges moved, seconded by Mr. Ralph Coleman to cease nominations.

 

MOTION PASSED

 

Mrs. Fannie Hawkins declined her nomination.

 

Mr. Ralph Coleman moved, seconded by Mrs. Evangelia Fields to elect Mr. Gene Edmondson by acclamation.

 

VOTING IN FAVOR OF THE MOTION:  Mr. Ralph Coleman, Mrs. Evangelia Fields, Mr. Gene Edmondson, Mrs. Harriet Bridges, Mrs. Fannie Hawkins and Mr. Roger Shoemaker.

 

VOTING AGAINST THE MOTION:  Mrs. Georjean Jackson.

 

MOTION PASSED

 

Mr. Roger Shoemaker moved, seconded by Mrs. Evangelia Fields to add one item to the agenda.

 

MOTION PASSED

 

Mr. Gene Edmondson moved, seconded by Mr. Ralph Coleman to adjourn the meeting.
