Members present: Mrs. Carolyn Ward, Mr. Gene Edmondson, Mr. Roger Shoemaker, Mrs. Shirley Fairchild, Mrs. Georjean Jackson, Mrs. Harriet Bridges, Mr. Marion Carraway, and Ms. Arlean Hampton

 

Members absent: Mrs. Jacqueline Folks

 

The regular meeting of East Carroll Parish School Board was called to order by Mrs. Georjean Jackson.

 

Invocation was given by Mr. Gene Edmondson and the Pledge of Allegiance was led by the audience.

 

Mr. Gene Edmondson moved, seconded by Mrs. Carolyn Ward to approve the minutes of March 12, 2013 regular meeting, and the minutes of March 14, 2013 special board meeting.

 

MOTION PASSED

 

The Superintendent advised the board of the following personnel changes:

 

            Retirement effective 5/28/2013

            Shirley Dee                               3rd Grade Teacher          Southside Elementary

            Helen Gibson                            Librarian                        Southside Elementary

 

 

Mrs. Shirley Fairchild moved, seconded by Mr. Roger Shoemaker to grant the superintendent permission to advertise for janitorial supplies.

Ms. Arlean Hampton moved, seconded by Mrs. Shirley Fairchild to grant the superintendent permission to advertise for Official Depository of Funds and Official Journal of the East Carroll School Board.

Mr. Gene Edmondson moved, seconded by Ms. Arlean Hampton to approve the following policies for adoption into the East Carroll School Board policy manual.

           

a.     Staff Insurance Coverage

Bids for the purchase of Monticello High School building and land were opened on April 1, 2013 at 11:00 am at the school board office:

 

Bidder:  Joe A Whatley             Bid: $ 42,000

 

Mr. Edmondson moved, seconded by Mrs. Shirley Fairchild to approve the bids for the purchase of Monticello High School building and land.

Voting Against the Motion: Marion Carraway, Carolyn Ward, and Georjean Jackson

Resolution

 

Whereas, the East Carroll Parish School Board servers the people of Lake Providence and East Carroll Parish by setting policies that govern the behavior of students and staff; and

 

Whereas, Mr. General Trass, Jr. administered the policies adopted by the East Carroll Parish School board for 43 years as a high school principal; and

 

Whereas, under the administration of Mr. General Trass, Jr. a school environment was created that was safe and conducive to learning and the development of disciplined behavior which fostered school pride and encouraged the pursuit of scholastic excellence; and

 

Whereas, the leadership of Mr. General Trass, Jr. has inspired and motivated scores of students and staff to strive for a higher plane of academic, moral and social existence which has positively impacted our community, state, and nation; and

 

Whereas, Mr. General Trass, Jr. is the embodiment of character traits such as integrity, discipline, respect and honor which are worthy of being emulated; and

 

Whereas, Mr. General Trass, Jr. has built a legacy that is worthy of being preserved for generations to come;

 

BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED that, the name of the Lake Providence Senior High School shall be changed to honor the service and dedication of Mr. General Trass, Jr. and will be recognized as General Trass High School
